Now you can edit as you wish.

Secure your Desktop Icons and Settings

You can save your desktop settings and secure it from your nerdy friend by playing with the registry. Simply launch the Registry Editor go to:

In the right pane create a new DWORD Value named NoSaveSettings and modify it's value to 1. Refresh and restart for the settings to get saved in it easily .

Delete the Tips of the Day to save 5KB

Windows 95 had these tips of the day which appeared on a system running a newly installed Windows OS. These tips of the day are stored in the Windows Registry and consume 5K of space. For those of you who are really concerned about how much free space your hard disk has, I have the perfect trick.

To save 5K go to the following key in Regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Tips

Now simply delete these tricks by selecting and pressing the DEL key.

The 30-share index, which had lost nearly 1,360 points in the last three sessions, plummeted by 682.823 points at 11,012.42 due to heavy sell off by foreign funds in the stocks of capital goods, metals, banking and oil and gas sectors.

The National Stock Exchange index Nifty tumbled by 200.8 points to 3,405.8 with all the heavyweight stocks trading in the negative zone.

Indian rupee fell by some around 37 paise to 48.3 against the dollar in early trade on the Forex market today.

Some of the Stocks which dragged the BSE barometer down are l&t, BHEL, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Rcom, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Bharti Airtel, Infosys Technologies, Satyam Computers, Tata Consultancy, Wipro, Grasim Industries, t ACC and also HDFC Ltd.

CHINA JOLTED BY 6.8 MAGNITUDE EARTH QUAKE !

A strong earthquake measuring around 6.8 on the Richter scale hit north west China's Wuqia country on Monday earlier. But there was no report of any casualty from there.

The epi-centre of the earthquake was located in Wuqia county, Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, with the source of quake 33 km under-ground, the state-run Xinhua news agency quoted that the National Seismological Network as saying on Monday.

Residents in Kashi also felt this strong earthquake, it said, adding there was no reports of casualties so far from Kashi area. Wuqia is located in the Pamirs, in the south-western part of Xinjiang, and at the conjunction of the southern side of the Tianshan Mountains and Kunlun Mountains.

VIOLENCE IN ASSAM !

Some Twenty-nine people have been killed in the clashes between the Bodos and the Bangladeshi migrants in Udalguri district of Assam state. These two communities first clashed on Friday after some of the Bangladeshi migrants tried to steal cattle from the villages of Bodo.

Soon the clashes spread across the district affecting over 30,000 people in some 30 villages.

Now, The state administration has confirmed that five of the dead were killed in the police firing. Several corpses have also been found in the paddy fields and curfew has been imposed in the district.

Police said five migrants were killed and another one critically injured by un -identified persons at the Dimakuchi weekly market in Udalguri district. Police had to fire in air at Tiyajhar in Udalguri district so to disperse a mob resulting in the injury of two persons.

Army has deployed some 10 companies and has staged a flag march in the two riot-affected districts and some four companies of the Central Reserve Police Force, Assam Rifles and the state police reserve force have also been deployed. Hope everything will be normal soon !

Windows XP is a line of operating systems developed by Microsoft for use on general-purpose computer systems, including home and business desktops, notebook computers, and media centers. The name "XP" stands for eXPerience. It was codenamed "Whistler", after Whistler, British Columbia, as many Microsoft employees skied at the Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort during its development. Service Pack 2 (SP2) (codenamed "Springboard") was released on August 6, 2004 after several delays, with a special emphasis on security. Unlike the previous service packs, SP2 adds new functionality to Windows XP, including an enhanced firewall, improved Wi-Fi support, such as WPA encryption compatibility, with a wizard utility, a pop-up ad blocker for Internet Explorer 6, and Bluetooth support. Security enhancements include a major revision to the included firewall which was renamed to Windows Firewall and is enabled by default, advanced memory protection that takes advantage of the NX bit that is incorporated into newer processors to stop some forms of buffer overflow attacks, and removal of raw socket support (which supposedly limits the damage done by zombie machines).
