TWENTY -20...FAST AND FURIOUS...

Thirty-two years ago, world cricket entered an unknown territory when England hosted the first World Cup in 1975 - the form of the game was called limited-overs internationals, and only 18 such games had ever been played when England and India played the first match of the tournament. On Tuesday(sep 11th), it's time to set into motion another experiment as South Africa and West Indies kick off the World Twenty20 in a format which is only 16 matches old.

I hope it will be entertaining and india may win the world cup

NEW ZEALEND DEFEATS KENYE BY 9 WICKETS

New Zealand defeated Kenya by 9 wickets in the first Group C match in the ICC World Twenty20 CHAMPIONSHIP. Mark Gillespie was adjudged man-of-the-match for his bowling figures of 4/7.

New Zealand achieved the target of 74 runs in just 7.4 overs; McCullum was unbeaten on 16 and Fulton on 21. Earlier, Vincent scored 27 off just 20 balls.

Earlier, the New Zealand bowlers came out with a purpose when their World Twenty20 campaign got underway at Kingsmead in Durban. The Kenyan side was shot out for a mediocre total of just 73 runs in a matter of 16.5 overs.

It also goes down in history books as the lowest total registered in a Twenty20 international match. The Kiwi side led by Daniel Vettori will have to chase down just 74 runs to secure a comfortable victory.

Mark Gillespie and Shane Bond took six wickets between them. The two fast bowlers ripped through the Kenyan top order, taking four wickets in the first two overs. The Kenyan score at the end of two overs was 1 run for the loss of four wickets.

The Kenyan innings comprised of six ducks, Gillespie ended with figures of 4/7 and Bond with 2/12... The match between pakistan and kenya will start in 10 minutes...hope it'll be interesting.

TOP 10 PHYSICALLY MODIFIED PEOPLE...PART 3

4. Pauly Unstoppable

with a name like ‘unstoppable’ you’d be stupid to give up on the modifications after a couple of earrings. this guy has surely the largest nostrils in the world (if you look closely i’m almost certain you can see his brain) plus a huge array of other ‘body mods’ to his name including scars cut into his cheeks and forehead, a split tongue, domes implanted under the skin of his forehead and many many more. to see the complete list go here. to see a harrowing, nsfw photo of mr unstoppable’s private parts, click here.

3. The Lizardman

born eric sprague in 1973, the lizardman was one of the first people to have a split tongue and in some circles is seen to be wholly responsible for the recent popularity of this particular modification. pretty much all of his body is covered in green scale tattoos, his teeth have been filed down to sharp points and he has numerous teflon implants in his head.

TOP 10 PHYSICALLY MODIFIED PEOPLE..PART 2

7. The illustrated lady

julia gnuse (aka illustrated lady) was born with a condition called poriphyria which causes her skin to blister regularly and ultimately scar. in order to cover this she started getting tattoos applied over the affected areas - after 10 years she was covered in the bastards and now she is the most tattooed woman in the world.

6. Elaine davidson

in total, brazilian elaine davidson has a number of tattoos and over 2500 piercings in her body, both internally and externally, approximately 500 just around the genitals. the total extra weight she carries due to this obsession comes to around 3.2kg and she is thankfully the most pierced person in the world. now living in edinburgh she claims to be too scared to go home due to the attention she attract possibly resulting in some kind of attack.

5. Kala kaiwi

kala kawai has 67 piercings and 75 % of his body is tattooed. so it’s a good job he chose a career in body modification, running his own studio in hawaii islands. he has stretched the holes in his earlobes to 4.1 inches, inserted various silicon implants on his head, can screw metal spikes into the skull, has a split tongue and generally looks extremely frightening. also worth bearing in mind is that he split his own tongue using dental floss and did all his piercings himself.

JUSTIN HENIN WINS US OPEN...

Justine Henin claimed her second grand slam title of the season when she regained the U.S. Open championship with a comfortable victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova in the women's singles final on Saturday.

Henin, who was victorious at Flushing Meadows in 2003, followed up her French Open success in June with a seventh career grand slam win when she brushed aside the fourth-seeded Russian, 6-1, 6-3, in one hour and 22 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The victory also ensured the world's No. 1 would finish the championship without having dropped a set, a feat that included victories over both Serena and Venus Williams .

Henin celebrated by climbing through the crowd and up to the players' guest box where she embraced coach Carlos Rodriguez before collecting a first prize of $1.4 million.

TOP 10 PHYSICALLY MODIFIED PEOPLE .... PART 1

10. leopard man

whether he’s mad or not, 67yr old tom leppard seems extremely happy living in a hand-built home on the isle of skye, 99% of his body tattooed with leopard print. he spends his days reading, scampering about the place on all fours like a leopard and staying away from the hustle and bustle of modern society. for a man who looks like john locke after an intense mud fight he actually seems pretty pleasant…

9. etienne dumont

etienne dumont is an art & culture critic for a newspaper in geneva who just happens to be covered head to toe in some of the most vibrant tattoos i’ve ever seen. he also has silicon implants under the skin which give the horned appearance, 2.7 inch rings in each earlobe and plexiglass piercings through the nose and under his bottom lip. the best part has to be the blue rimmed glasses though, a perfect addition to an incredible look.

8. rick genest

would you let your daughter marry rick genest? i’m sure he’s probably a lovely chap but that’s without doubt the scariest human head i will ever see in my lifetime. there isn’t much information about mr genest himself on the internet (would you approach him for an interview?) but we do know the tattoo was crafted by the chaps at ‘derm fx tattoo‘ in montreal. job well done guys.

COMPANY BRAND/PRODUCTS DERIVED FROM...

Mercedes - This was actually the financier's
daughter's name.

Adobe - This came from name of the river Adobe Creek
that ran behind
the house of founder John Warnock.

Apple Computers - It was the favorite fruit of founder
Steve Jobs. He
was three months late in filing a name for the
business, and he
threatened to call his company Apple Computers if the
other
colleagues didn't suggest a better name by 5 O'clock.

CISCO - It is not an acronym as popularly believed. It
is short for
San Francisco.

Compaq - This name was formed by using COMp, for
computer, and PAQ to
denote a small integral object.

Corel -The name was derived from the founder's name
Dr. Michael
Cowpland. It stands for COwpland REsearch Laboratory.

Google - The name started as a joke boasting about the
amount of
information the search-engine would be able to search.
It was
originally named 'Googol', a word for the number
represented by 1
followed by 100 zeros. After founders-Stanford
graduate students
Sergey Brin and Larry Page presented their project to
an angel
investor, they received a cheque made out to 'Google'

Hotmail- Founder Jack Smith got the idea of accessing
e-mail via the
web from a computer anywhere in the world. When Sabeer
Bhatia came up
with the business plan for the mail service, he tried
all kinds of
names ending in 'mail' and finally settled for hotmail
as it included
the letters "html" - the programming language used to
write web
pages. It was initially referred to as HoTMaiL with
selective
uppercasing.

Hewlett Packard - Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard tossed
a coin to
decide whether the company they founded would be
called Hewlett-
Packard or Packard-Hewlett.

Intel - Bob Noyce and Gordon Moore wanted to name
their new
company 'Moore Noyce'but that was already trademarked
by a hotel
chain so they had to settle for an acronym of
INTegrated ELectronics.

Lotus (Notes) - Mitch Kapor got the name for his
company from 'The
Lotus Position' or 'Padmasana'. Kapor used to be a
teacher of
Transcendental Meditation of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

Microsoft - Coined by Bill Gates to represent the
company that was
devoted to MICROcomputer SOFTware. Originally
christened Micro-Soft,
the '-' was removed later on.

Motorola - Founder Paul Galvin came up with this name
when his
company started manufacturing radios for cars. The
popular radio
company at the time was called Victrola.

ORACLE - Larry Ellison and Bob Oats were working on a
consulting
project for the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency). The
code name for
the project was called Oracle (the CIA saw this as the
system to give
answers to all questions or something such). The
project was designed
to help use the newly written SQL code by IBM. The
project eventually
was terminated but Larry and Bob decided to finish
what they started
and bring it to the world. They kept the name Oracle
and created the
RDBMS engine. Later they kept the same name for the
company.

Sony - It originated from the Latin word 'sonus'
meaning sound,
and 'sonny' a slang used by Americans to refer to a
bright youngster.

SUN - Founded by 4 Stanford University buddies, SUN is
the acronym
for Stanford University Network. Andreas Bechtolsheim
built a
microcomputer; Vinod Khosla recruited him and Scott
McNealy to
manufacture computers based on it, and Bill Joy to
develop a UNIX-
based OS for the computer.

Yahoo - The word was invented by Jonathan Swift and
used in his book
Gullivers Travels. It represents a person who is
repulsive in
appearance and action and is barely human. Yahoo!
Founders Jerry Yang
and David Filo selected the name because they
considered themselves
yahoos

WEIRD ASIAN MARTIAL ART WEAPONS.....

From iron claws and meteor hammers to deer antler blades and emei needles, ancient Martial Arts weapons range greatly in shape and design, yet all have only one purpose - to injure. In the hands of a skilled assassin, even the humble chopsticks can become savage weapons.

Brutal metal-link whips, miniature swords disguised as tobacco pipes, fans edges with razor-sharp blades and poison-tipped arrows are all lethal in their own right but pale in comparison with an almost mystical weapon of decapitation.

1. The Urumi
urumi.jpg

Also known as “chuttuval,” which means “coiled sword,” this flexible weapon is used in the South Indian Martial Art of Kalaripayatt.

The blade (or multiple blades, as in the urumi pictured here) is flexible enough to be rolled up and stored when not used, or even worn as a belt and whipped out on demand.

The blade or blades are typically razor-sharp and bad news for anyone standing in the vicinity of the person wielding the urumi.

urmi-payattu.jpg

2. The Tekko-kagi (”hand claws”)
tekkokagi.jpg

Ninjas would use the tekko-kagi claws to guard against sword attacks, allowing them to swipe and potentially knock the sword from an assailant’s hands.

Or, ninjas could use claws the claws offensively against their opponents with devastating results.

Typically made from aluminum, steel, iron or wood, tekko weapons are believed by martial arts historians to have originated when the Bushi in Okinawa, Japan began wielding the steel shoes of their horses as a means of self-defense against assailants.

3. The Kusari-gama
kusarigama.jpg

Kusari-gama is a traditional Japanese weapon that consists of Scythe-like blade,Kama, on a metal chain with a heavy iron weight at the end.

This weapon came from the design of the farmer’s scythe but this was not a weapon that farmers used.

The art of handling the Kusarigama is called Kusarigamajutsu.

4. The Nunchaku
wood_nunchucks.jpg

A nunchaku is two sections of wood (or metal in modern incarnations) connected by a cord or chain. Chinese nunchaku tend to be rounded, whereas Japanese are octagonal.

The traditional nunchaku is made from a strong, flexible hardwood such as oak, loquat or pasania. Originally, the wood would be submerged in mud for several years, where lack of oxygen and optimal acidity prevent rotting.

The end result is a hardened wood. The rope is made from horsehair, and was traditionally claimed to be able to block a sword. Finally, the wood is very finely sanded and rubbed with an oil or stain for preservation.

5. The Meteor Hammer & Rope Dart
meteor-hammers.jpg

This weapon is comprised of a long rope with twin metal weights, “hammers”, or darts on each end. When used as a weapon, the hammer or dart on the front end is used for attack and the other for protection.

The rope wraps around the neck, back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, thigh, foot, or waist. When the hammer or dart is released, it strikes outward with stunning and surprising speed. It is one of Chinese martial arts’ most unique and difficult-to-master weapons.

6. San-Jie-Gun (Three Section Staff)
3-section-staff.gif

The three sectional staff, is a historical weapon, which appears in the Chinese book “Sangokushi”. Its distinctive feature is three 70 cm sticks chained together making it much longer than a long staff.

It can be swung around, or as a staff, using one’s whole body space to fend off an attacker. A Chinese weapon constructed from three pieces of wood connected by metal rings at their ends. Lengths of the sections are roughly equal, each about the length of the practitioner’s arms (with the diameter around one inch).

The three sectional staff can be used as a long range weapon when held at one end and swung freely, or a short-range weapon when two of the sections are held and used to strike or parry.

7. Shurikens (Throwing Star)
throwingstar.jpg

One of the most popular weapons of the Ninja, the shuriken was used as more of a distraction than an actual weapon. Although they can hurt they rarely penetrate deep enough to kill. Shurikens come with anywhere from 4 to 12 points traditionally.

8. Tessen (Iron Fan)
tessen3.jpg

Folding fans with outer spokes made of iron which were designed to look like regular, harmless folding fans or solid clubs shaped to look like a closed fan.

Samurai could take these to places where swords or other overt weapons were not allowed, and some swordsmanship schools included training in the use of the tessen as a weapon.

The tessen was also used for fending off arrows and darts, as a throwing weapon, and as an aid in swimming, like hand-flippers.

WORLD'S BIGGEST HELICOPTER....

These are photographs of the worlds largest helicopter which happened to be on the tarmac in Dease Lake , B.C. this week. It is to be used for taking mining equipment and cargo out to a new mine called Galore Creek. It is owned by a Russian company. It is called the Utsky. The chopper couldn't land at the air strip at Bob Quinn Lake because it wasn't a paved area so it had to land in Dease Lake until the landing site north of Bob Quinn could be inspected. Apparently this chopper's wash will pick up and fling rocks, up to 12 inches in diameter, around like leaves.

Stats supposedly: Russian crew of 6, 2 Pilots, 1 Navigator, 2 Engineers (mechanics), 1 cargo person- you can put 1 dump truck, 1 SUV in it a semi-trailer will fit in it.- carries 75 troops- uses 2000 litres of fuel per hour- 580 km range- costs $30,000/hr to rent - 40 metres long - 8 blades about 2 feet wide - probably bigger than ANYTHING seen at the Dease Lake Airport , including the terminal building. WOW!!!!!

BCCI PLANNING TO ORGANISE 20-20 LEAGUES

The BCCI is planning to organise a high-profile Twenty20 league of its own to counter the challenge posed by the Indian Cricket League.

The plan is still at a formative stage and it is learnt that the legendary Sunil Gavaskar would be asked to head the organising committee of the league to be called 'Professional Cricket League'.

"We have been working on something for sometime now, but we are not yet ready to announce anything right now. When we are ready we will let you know," BCCI Vice President and marketing committee Chief Lalit Modi said on Thursday.

The proposal did not come up for discussion at the special General Body meeting of BCCI in Mumbai on Tuesday.

"There has been no discussion on this in the BCCI," a top source in the board said.

Although the BCCI official was not willing to shed much light on the new proposal, it is learnt that two or three foreign players will be allowed to play in each team.

Jolted by the rebel ICL's massive recruitment drive, the BCCI has not only decided to ban defecting players but has also announced substantial hikes in match fees and prize money for domestic competition to prevent a fresh exodus.

The ICL, a brainchild of the Essel Group, has so far recruited 44 first class players and seven overseas players which include West Indies batting great Brian Lara and former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq.
